About Dyes Happy
Hi, I'm Kate, the artist behind Dyes Happy.
I've always loved making things. Whether it's hand dyed fabric, watercolor, photography, or digital illustration, every design starts with an original piece of artwork. I enjoy the process just as much as the finished result. Watching an idea evolve from something made by hand into wallpaper or fabric that becomes part of someone's home.
Long before wallpaper could be ordered with the click of a button, it began with an artist's idea. A pencil sketch, a paintbrush, or a piece of fabric dyed by hand. That connection between the artist and the finished piece is something I never want to lose, especially today.
We live in a time when so much is made quickly and so much looks the same. Dyes Happy is my way of slowing things down. Every collection begins with artwork I've created myself before it ever becomes a repeat pattern. I hope that matters today, and I hope it's something people will value for years to come. Original artwork is worth making, collecting, and living with.
Home has always meant more to me than a place.
I've moved more times than I can count, and maybe that's why I don't think of a home as something you decorate. I think it's something you collect and perfect over time. The best homes come together piece by piece through artwork, books, furniture, textiles, travel, and random objects that hold memories. Those are the homes I love most.
Portugal has become one of my greatest sources of inspiration. Its colorful tile work, historic architecture, craftsmanship, and appreciation for preserving tradition continue to influence the way I see design. I've always been drawn to places that are steeped in history. I hope my work carries a little of that same feeling.
More than anything, I hope my designs become part of the homes people are building over a lifetime. Not because they follow a trend, but because they feel personal and are something you'll enjoy living with for years.
Every home tells a story. I'm honored when one of my designs becomes part of yours.
